Prestatyn Town FC Club Event, November 8th 2011

Our Welsh Office visited Prestatyn Town FC for their second event in North Wales.

More about this event...

Another successful event at Prestatyn Town FC supported by the clubs manager and captain which highlights the clubs stance against racism.
- Jason Webber - Campagin Worker

Bastion Gardens was the venue for the day where Children from Ysgol Cefn Meiriadog and Ysgol Penmorfa Primary School attended and took part in a day of anti racism education.

The event started with an anti racism workshop delivered by ex-professional footballer Christian Roberts and our Welsh education co-ordinator Simon Richards.

Simon and Christian utilized some new resources looking at the incredible stories of twins who are born with different coloured skin and using this to explore stereotypes and the effect skin colour can have on people life experiences.

The young people had a tour of the ground during their lunch break and used the time to think of questions for the afternoon session.

During the afternoon session we tried out a new format where we introduced pupils designing their own anti racism t-shirts something that has been hugely popular in our anti racism schools competition. Pupils had a template of a t-shirt and were given colouring pens and had time to design their masterpiece encompassing the messages they had explored in the mornings workshop.

The winner of the best design from each school will be submitted to go into a draw that will include winners of each remaining club event and the overall winner will have their t-shirt made.

After the design making was the Question and Answer session where club captain Dave Hayes, manager Neil Gibson and Christian Roberts answered some difficult questions from the young people.

The best question won a Prestatyn Town FC away kit and each pupil received match tickets for an up coming game.

We will continue to work with Prestatyn Town FC and the school be involved with our schools competition this year.

Tony O'Riely from the club said:

"It is important to have this campaign to teach the children of today that racism has no place in football or in any walk of life."

After the event we interviewed manager Neil Gibson about racism in football and his thoughts on the campagin, the video can be viewed HERE

We would like to thank the club, Neil and Dave for supporting SRtRC and the event at Prestatyn Town FC.
